In 552 AD, Narses led Byzantine forces against the Ostrogothic Kingdom in Italy. His strategic mind questioned the Ostrogoths' sudden withdrawal, despite his victories. He predicted an ambush and set a trap by presenting a weak center. When the Ostrogoths attacked, Byzantine forces launched a deadly arrow barrage. Narses' cavalry then flanked and destroyed the enemy. Over 6,000 Ostrogothic soldiers, including their general, were killed. Narses' fame spread throughout the Mediterranean, and his leadership revived the Roman military's glory.
